Listen to the word of God and pray everyday

When Jesus called his disciples, he said: Follow me! They all left everything and followed him for the rest of their lives. You have been called to a lifelong following of Jesus Christ. We will now give you some activities to do on a daily basis that will help you to know Christ more and to follow him closely!

Read your Bible – listen to the word of God

One of the best ways to grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ is to read the Bible daily and to listen to the teaching or preaching of the word of God. In this course you will find that we are constantly quoting the Bible to help you to understand what God is saying in his word.

All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. (2 Tim 3:16-17)

Let God speak to you through what you read in the Bible!

1. Start reading one of the gospels first.

2. As you read a portion of one gospel every day, meditate on what you read by asking questions:

What is the main point in this passage?

How does it apply to me?

What does this mean about my relationship to God and other people?

What commands are there (that) I need to obey?

What sin is mentioned that I should avoid?

What example is there here for me to follow?

What promise is given here that I can receive for myself?

What in this passage should be my prayer today?

Pray everyday – everywhere!

Prayer is communication with God. It is like talking to your dad. As you continue to share everything with God and to talk to him everywhere you will enter into a very meaningful relationship with him. Start every day with thanksgiving and prayer and continue to fellowship with God throughout the day. Bring all your problems and burdens to God, for he cares for you (1 Peter 5:7)!

Things to remember in your daily prayers:

1. Rejoice in the Lord with thanksgiving and do not be anxious about anything (Philippians 4:4-7)

2. Ask for and receive wisdom from God for living right (James 1:5)

3. Pray for salvation for your national leaders and your friends (1 Timothy 2:1-5)

4. Ask for forgiveness if you sin (1 John 1:8-10)

5. Bring all your problems to God and believe his promises (1 Peter 5:7)

How to plan your daily devotional time with God:

1. Plan a fixed time every day (in the morning if possible) for reading the Bible and prayer (Mark 1:35)

2. If possible find a place where you will not be disturbed (Matthew 6:6)

3. Keep a prayer journal. Write down your prayer requests and the answers God gives you.

4. Read a portion from the Bible and pray about your plans for the new day.

5. Remind yourself throughout the entire day that the Lord Jesus Christ is with you and will use you to bless other people!
